Veterinarians

  • Timothy J. McAughan , D.V.M.


    Dr. Tim McAughan is the owner veterinarian of both Animal Hospital Champions Northwest and Animal Hospital Jones Road, and has more than 30 years experience in the field of veterinary medicine. A graduate of Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine, he began his veterinary care with the U.S. Army, and later returned home to Houston to start his small animal practices. He says the most rewarding aspect of his job is resolving a difficult or perplexing problem with a patient. He especially enjoys surgery and advancing the field of veterinary medicine to improve pets' lives.
        Dr. McAughan raises Labrador Retrievers and has four cats, all of whom are residents at the clinics. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, skiing, and watching his daughter play sports.
        Dr. McAughan practices at both Animal Hospital Champions Northwest and Animal Hospital Jones Road.

  • Bonnie Cate , D.V.M.


    Dr. Bonnie Cate, a 1996 graduate of Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine, began pursuing her dream to be a veterinarian at the age of 16, when she volunteered at a local animal hospital in her Louisiana hometown. Dr. Cate joined the veterinary medical staff of Animal Hospital Jones Road in 2001, and finds her job most rewarding when patients recover from illness and return to their familes happy and healthy.
        Dr. Cate raises Irish Setters and has a history of rescuing and rehabilitating squirrels. She spends spare time with her husband and two daughters and enjoys scrapbooking and children's ministry at church.

  • Melissa Blessinger , D.V.M.


    Dr. Blessinger joined the staff of Animal Hospital Champions Northwest in Spring of 2008, and is most recognizable by her long, wavy red hair. She earned her doctorate of veterinary medicine from Purdue University in 2005, and later moved to the Houston area with her husband.
        Dr. Blessinger has an uncanny relationship with her patients, and says her reward is the look of thanks she receives from them. Her spare time is pretty busy with a young daughter and two spoiled dogs, an Australian Shepherd and a beagle. She also enjoys reading, dance and watching her young children grow.

  • Kylie Brkusich , B.V.M.S.


    Dr. Kylie joined Animal Hospital Champions Northwest in 2007. With 21 years in the field of veterinary medicine, she earned her doctorate from Murdoch University in Perth, Australia. She is licensed and has experience practicing in three countries, Australia, Great Britain and the United States.
       Her pets include two dressage warmblood horses, a pony and two Blue Heeler dogs. In her spare time, she enjoys competing in horsemanship, gardening and enjoying her sons. Dr. Kylie receives tremendous satisfaction from helping unwell pets and relieving owners'  worry and stress.

  • Elizabeth Free , D.V.M.


    Dr. Elizabeth Free, graduated from of the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001, fulfilling a lifelong love for animals and passion for science and medicine. A staff veterinarian at Animal Hospital Jones Road since 2002, Dr. Free has an empathetic bond with her patients. Her intelligent curiosity guides her in the diagnosis and treatment of unusual and rare conditions among her patients.
        An avid horsewoman, she enjoys training dogs and spending time with her young daughter and husband.

  • Christine Olsen , BVSc


    Dr. Olsen has dual citizenship in Australia and the United States, and has licensure to practice in both countries as well. She earned her veterinary degree from the University of Melbourne (Australia) in 2005, and worked as a veterinarian in the Melbourne area for several years before moving stateside again and joining the staff of Animal Hospital Champions Northwest.
        She finds great happiness in helping sick and injuried patients recover, and enjoys bonding with patients and owners through their care.
        Dr. Olsen relaxes through travel and photography. Her black Labrador is one of her favorite international travelling companions, and she also has a sweet cat.

  • Josh Powell , D.V.M.


    Dr. Powell received his doctorate of veterinary medicine from Oklahoma State University in 2009. He has experience working with zoo animals, but chose to focus on small animal veterinary medicine for his career.
      Dr. Powell is married, has gerbils and recently adopted a rescued mixed breed. He enjoys camping, hiking and catching the latest movie on the big screen.
       With four years experience in veterinary medicine, Dr. Powell finds every aspect of it interesting and rewarding.

  • Freddy Urrea , DVM


    With the exception of the clinic owner, Dr. Urrea, a 20 year employee,  has the longest tenure at Animal Hospital Jones Road. Dr. Urrea has his certification in PennHIP evaluation, an important procedure for measuring the laxity in the canine hip when the puppy is young, and thus giving the owner options for identifying a problem and rectifying it early in the pet's life. Born in Colombia, he attended Universidad de Caldes, graduated in 1986, and came to Houston shortly thereafter. He says practicing veterinary medicine never feels like work, but is fun and extremely challenging. Dr. Urrea is a busy family man with two sons and a daughter, and he fosters dogs at home as well. Administration

  • Elissa Jackman , CVA I


    Elissa  Jackman is the hospital adminstrator at Animal Hospital, where she joined the staff in 2003. She has a degree in workplace safety from Northeastern State University in Oklahoma, and five and a half years experience in veterinary medicine.
        Ms. Jackman considers puppy kisses a perk of her job, and works every day to help and guide our employees and support our customer service creed. At home, her Yorkshire Terrier commands her full attention, but her son, daughter-in-law, and four grandchildren are pretty important too.
        In her spare time, Ms. Jackman enjoys her four grandchildren, crafts, sewing and reading.

  • Tina Lalonde , CVA I


    Tina LaLonde first worked for Animal Hospital Jones Road as a teenager, and later became the practice manager for Animal Hospital Champions Northwest in 2005.

    She is a 20+ year veteran in the field and has experience working in many capacities throughout her professional veterinary career. Ms. LaLonde gets satisfaction from helping the staff work as a team to provide quality care for our patients.

       Ms. LaLonde enjoys her spending free time with her family, three daughters and son, and two dogs and two cats. She is enthusiastic about sewing, cross stitching and crafts, in additional to following her children's activities -- ballet and dance, baseball, football, and choir.

  • Beth Williams , R.V.T.


    Beth Williams. R.V.T., became a member of the Animal Hospital Jones Road staff in 1994, and first worked as a registered veterinary technician prior to becoming practice manager. She holds a veterinary technology degree from North Harris County College. Her passion is pets, and Ms. Williams has three Great Danes and seven cats. She is active in the local Great Dane rescue club and relaxes by reading and skating in her spare time. She truly enjoys being around animals all day long.

Pet Stylists/Groomers

  • Stephanie Campbell , CVA I


    Stephanie Campbell is a pet stylist at Animal Hospital Champions Northwest and has 11 years experience working with animals. She grooms both dogs and cats, and received her training form Paragon Grooming School in year 2000. Ms. Campbell has three dogs, two cats, a son, daughter and husband at home, and one of her favorite pastimes is spending time with family.   • Jenni Hudson

    Our pet stylist and salon manager for over a year and a half, Jenni Hudson enjoys all her clients. She greets every one enthusiastically and warmly. Ms. Hudson began grooming over five year ago, and she can style any breed dog or cat.
        Her home is full, with four dogs, two birds and a cat, and she somehow manages to give a little attention to her husband as well. Ms. Hudson says she loves getting kisses from all her "pet" clients, and that it is a privilege to work with people who truly love animals and witness heroes who save pets'  lives every day.
  • Jamie Johnson


    Jamie Johnson provides pet styling services for pets at Animal Hospital Champions Northwest. She has five years experience grooming dogs and cats, and loves to interact with her clients. Ms. Johnson finds joy in getting to play with lots of pets all day long. She particularly enjoys learning new, updated styles and working with all kinds of dog and cat breeds. Ms. Johnson has one cat and enjoys reading in her spare time.

  • Heidi Lowe


    Heidi Lowe works as a pet stylist at Animal Hospital Champions Northwest. She has four years experience grooming and an additional several more working in the animal field. She has one dog and a horse, and enjoys keeping fish tanks. She also spends time with her horse, her friends and is an avid scuba diver. What Heidi enjoys most about her job is making the animals feel special and loved, and seeing the owners happy about how their pets' new styles.

Receptionist Managers

  • Lauren Rutland , CVA I


    Lauren Rutland is a three year employee of Animal Hospital Jones Road, and has five years veterinary experience. She is always ready at the front desk with a gracious smile, and finds job satisfaction in being part of the team that helps sick pets get well again, and learning more about new veterinary medical treatments and procedures. Ms. Rutland is a twin, and has four dogs - a doberman pinscher, rottweiler and two miniature pinschers. She also enjoys the hobby of showing horses. Vetsuite_Img_116953

Veterinary Technician Managers & Supervisors

  • Katie Wilson , C.V.A. II


    Katie Wilson is the veterinary technician manager at Animal Hospital Champions Northwest, and she joined our staff thirteen years ago while still in high school. She has certification from the Texas Veterinary Medical Association as a Certified Veterinary Assistant II, which she earned after successfully completing two levels of study and testing on the subject of veterinary medicine nursing and support.
       Ms. Wilson has three dogs, a Jack Russel mix, a dachsund and an American Eskimo, two beloved cats and three tarantulas. She has a young daughter and is an avid gymnastics mom in her spare time.
      Ms. Wilson loves being able to share the moment with owners when their pets get well and return home healthy and happy.

  • Traci Laursen


    Traci Laursen serves as the technician manager at Animal Hospital Jones Road. She has more than 18 years experiences in the veterinary medical field working in both general and specialty practices. Contributing to the welfare of pets and helping to strengthen the human/animal bond is what makes the job rewarding to Ms. Laursen. She's an animal lover to the core, and has a three legged German Shephard, a four legged German Shephard, a quarter horse and a goat. Kennel Manager

  • Alana Hackney


    Alana Hackney is the kennel manager at Animal Hospital Champions Northwest, moving to this position after working at our sister hospital, Animal Hospital Jones Road, for one year. She is currently studying for her Certified Veterinary Assistant I accredation.
        At home Ms. Hackney has one cat and three dogs, so she is always caring for pets, whether at work or play. She is married and enjoys family, friends, shopping and cross stitching.
        Ms. Hackney says she loves to make all our patients feel at home, and learning more about veterinary medicine.

  • Elisha Powell


    Elisha Powell serves as the Kennel Manager for Animal Hospital Jones Road. Her upbeat attitude and can do attitude make for a positive environment for our patients as they board with us when family members are away.
       Ms. Powell is working toward her associates degree, and she has a special interest and experience with horses and ranching. She has two Catahulas,  a Jack Russell terrier and a majestic Irish wolfhound. She spends her spare time with her family, horses and pets.

    Buttons is a spayed female gray tabby domestic short hair cat that is one of the clinic cats at Animal Hospital Champions Northwest. She is very loving and spends a lot of time at the front desk.   • Simon


    Simon is a male orange and white tabby, and "Trouble" is his middle name, because he is always looking for it. Once a stray, he wandered up to a client's house, and she brought Simon to Animal Hospital Jones Road for to determine his good health before looking for an adoptive home.
